THE MAIN HOUSE
For nearly six decades, 527 Bridge Lane was the home of one of the great figures in American literature. Here, Peter Matthiessen wrote nearly thirty books–including two National Book Award winners–the only author to do so in both the category of fiction and non-fiction.
In the six-bedroom residence, converted from an early 20th century carriage house and located across a small apple orchard from his rustic writing studio, Peter Matthiessen raised a family and entertained countless artists and writers from the East End and beyond.
